Custom Software & Automation
Mindjax Knowledge Converter
Mindjax build · Custom software
Turn Word documents and PowerPoint presentations into clean, reusable HTML. A custom-built document conversion application that eliminates repetitive formatting work and simplifies content publishing.
The problem
A lot of business knowledge starts life in Word documents and slide decks: procedures, job aids, training material, policies. Getting that content onto a website, an intranet or a knowledge base usually means copying it across by hand.
Then the cleanup starts. Headings lose their structure, lists and tables need rebuilding, stray formatting comes along for the ride, and every image has to be saved and inserted again, one at a time. It’s slow, repetitive work, and it’s easy to get wrong.
The solution
Knowledge Converter is a browser-based application Mindjax designed and built to take that preparation work off people’s plates. Upload a .docx or .pptx file and it reads the document’s structure, not just its text, then produces clean HTML with every embedded image extracted and in place.
You can preview the result, inspect the generated markup and download it, either as a single HTML file or as a complete package. One conversion produces three kinds of output, so the same document can go wherever it’s needed.
- Clean HTML
- Semantic markup with no leftover styling, suitable for websites and CMS editors.
- HTML + Assets
- A portable page with its extracted images and supporting files, organized in an assets folder.
- Freshservice Article
- Knowledge-base-ready HTML, packaged with an image manifest and a conversion report.
Key capabilities
- Converts Word (.docx) documents and PowerPoint (.pptx) presentations
- Keeps headings, nested and numbered lists, tables, links, emphasis and callouts as real HTML
- Extracts embedded images and places them where they appeared in the original
- Turns each slide into its own section, including speaker notes
- Flags content that needs a human check, such as charts or SmartArt, instead of silently dropping it
- Preview, HTML and Assets views, with one-click downloads
- Uploaded files are deleted after processing, and results expire automatically
Where it’s useful
Anywhere content is written in Office and published somewhere else. For example:
- Moving procedures and job aids into an IT service desk knowledge base
- Publishing policies, guides and handbooks on a website or intranet
- Bringing content into a CMS without the formatting baggage of a Word paste
- Turning presentation decks into web pages or online training material
- Preparing documentation for a move from one system to another
Technical overview
A Python conversion engine reads each Office file into a format-neutral document model, then renders every output profile from that model. Adding a new input format or a new output target doesn’t mean rewriting the rest.
A FastAPI service handles conversions. It validates each upload before parsing it, runs every conversion in its own isolated, time-limited worker, and sanitizes the generated HTML. The interface is a Next.js and TypeScript web app. The application is packaged with Docker and Caddy and hosted on DigitalOcean and Cloudflare Pages.
What it shows
Knowledge Converter isn’t a product for sale. It’s an example of the kind of custom software Mindjax builds: a tool shaped around one specific, repetitive job, built to production standards. The same approach applies to:
- Custom internal business tools
- Document-processing workflows
- Content publishing automation
- System integrations
- Purpose-built web applications
If your team has a process like this, one that eats hours of copying, reformatting and re-keying, it’s worth a conversation.
